The Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock

FAQs

Question #1:  How does one become a member of The Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock?

Answer:  Membership is by invitation only and new members are sponsored by existing members.  If you know an existing member, let them know you’re interested and they can get you a membership application.  If you don’t know an existing member, let us know through the “Contact Us” feature on our website and we’ll do what we can to help you become a member.

Question #2:  How much does it cost to be a member?

Answer:  For 2024 the cost of membership is $25.  Once you become a member annual dues are $25 as of 2024.

Question #3:  How much does it cost to attend the annual Campfire?

Answer:  First it’s important to understand our policy that a member can only attend the annual Campfire if he sponsors a boy.  That said, for 2024 the cost for a man and one boy is $260.00.  Each additional boy is $130.00.  The cost covers lodging in cabins, meals Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, instruction and transportation to off-site classes.

Question #4:  Do you have any events besides the annual Campfire.

Answer:  Yes and no.  The Maryland Chapter has one Campfire annually.  However, there are BOJC Chapters in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio and Michigan who also have annual Campfires and several members attend multiple Campfires.  Michigan actually has two Campfires.  Campfire weekends never conflict between Chapters.

Question #5:  Can I bring my daughter to the annual Campfire?

Answer:  Yes and no.  The Maryland Chapter is for boys only.  However, girls can attend the New York, Virginia, Ohio and Michigan Chapter Campfires.

Question #6:  Are there any age restrictions?

Answer:  The minimum age for boys to attend the Maryland Campfire weekend is 6 years of age.  The Maryland Chapter policies allow for boys between the ages of 8 and 18 years to participate in the Education Program.  Boys who start coming to Camp prior to turning 8 years old will be introduced to BOJC through an early learner program soon to be known as the “Emerger Program”.  The reason for not starting boys in the Education Program before they reach 8 years old is that our Education Program has a 6-9 year progression and some classes require minimal levels of patience and dexterity in the later years.  We have found boys who start before they are 8 years old have little chance of succeeding in Advanced Fly Fishing and building Nets, Knives and Rods when they are 10, 11 or 12 years old.  Maximizing the potential a boy has to succeed (while challenging his abilities) is a fundamental element of our Education Program.
